چکیده

A design of a Bragg reflector for a Raman FEL is described It is shown that mode conversion occurs whenever the axial wavenumbers of the two modes fulfil the Bragg condition. With a constant ripple of the corrugation it is shown that the reflected radiation also contains higher order modes, assuming that the incident radiation consists only of a TE mode . The mode purity can be increased by increasing the length of the reflector at the expense of a smaller reflection bandwidth . A more flexible method is by applying a Hamming window to the corrugation of the reflector. Contributions of other modes to the reflected radiation can m that case be neglected. The reflector will be installed in a Raman laser to be able to compare the amplifier with the oscillator configuration . Therefore some preliminary results are also presented about the start-up of the Raman laser.

Comparison between a FEL amplifier and oscillator

Previous experiments with the Raman FEL, situated at the Twente University, showed that the output was influenced by the rather strong increase of the current density with time . The field emission diode has been modified to produce a more constant current pulse to simplify the analysis of the measurements . This resulted in a lower current density of the electron beam . With this new diode two...

Feasibility considerations of a soft-x-ray distributed feedback laser pumped by an x-ray free electron laser

We discuss the feasibility of a soft-x-ray distributed feedback laser (DFL) pumped by an xray free electron laser (X-FEL). The DFL under consideration is a Mg/SiC bi-layered Bragg reflector pumped by a single X-FEL bunch at 57.4 eV, stimulating the Mg L2,3 emission at 49 eV corresponding to the 3s-3d -> 2p1/2,3/2 transition. Based on a model developed by Yariv and Yeh and an extended coupled-wa...

Short Cavity Erbium/Ytterbium Fiber Lasers Mode-Locked with a Saturable Bragg Reflector

We present short cavity erbium/ytterbium fiber lasers that are passively mode-locked with a saturable Bragg reflector. The lasers produce sub-500-fs pulses at fundamental cavity repetition rates as high as 300 MHz. Stable passive harmonic operation increases the repetition rate to 2.0 GHz. The mode-locking mechanism in both the normal and anomalous group velocity dispersion regimes is investiga...

S-band multiwavelength Brillouin/Raman distributed Bragg reflector fiber lasers.

A multiwavelength Brillouin/Raman distributed Bragg reflector fiber laser operating in the S-band region is proposed and demonstrated. The laser uses a 7.7 km long dispersion-shifted fiber with an effective mode area of 15 μm(2) as the Brillouin and Raman gain media simultaneously. Two 1420 nm laser diodes with a combined power of 372 mW are used as pump sources, while a fiber Bragg grating wit...

Design and Analysis of Enhanced Modulation Response in Integrated Coupled Cavities DBR Lasers Using Photon-Photon Resonance

In the last few decades, various solutions have been proposed to increase the modulation bandwidth and, consequently, the transmission bit-rate of semiconductor lasers. In this manuscript, we discuss a design procedure for a recently proposed laser cavity realized with the monolithic integration of two distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) lasers allowing one to extend the modulation bandwidth. Suc...
